Ironwood student bags Horticulture Student of the Year Award in South Australia

Lisa Agar has won the Horticulture Student of the Year Award organised by the Nursery Gardens Industry of South Australia. This is the second year running that a student from Ironwood Institute has taken out this prestigious award. Zoe Hsu won the award in 2022 and is currently working at Poplar Grove whilst completing her studies.

Lisa is currently studying Certificate III in Horticulture at Ironwood Institute and has already progressed to the position of Propagation Manager with Lewis Horticulture, a leading horticulture company based at Riverlea Park. Lisa said that the opportunity she has had through her course at Ironwood Institute has given her the practical skills to succeed in the industry and has really fast-tracked her career.

Mr. Scott Lewis the Managing Director of Lewis Horticulture said that Lisa has a keen eye for detail and has excellent ‘plant intuition’ which is a wonderful attribute for a propagator. “In fact, I have never worked with a person who has developed so quickly in this role, it is a testament to her previous experience and passion for plants and Lewis Horticulture is very pleased to have Lisa as a part of their team.”

Mr. Navtej Bal, the CEO of Ironwood Institute, said he was delighted that Lisa had received the recognition she deserved. He added, “She is an outstanding student and is excelling as an Industry Manager with Lewis Horticulture, even before she completes her course”.
