Congratulations to Lisa Agars, Finalist in the Vocational Student of the Year at the SA Training Awards – October 2023

Ironwood Institute congratulates Lisa Agars – Vocational Student of the Year Finalist in the 2023 SA Training Awards.

This award recognizes an outstanding student’s achievement during study leading to a national vocational qualification. Lisa is the current NGISA Horticulture Student of the Year, competing against a strong field to represent the best that Vocational Education has to offer.

Lisa did her Certificate III in Horticulture at Ironwood Institute with the South Australian
Government’s WorkReady subsidised training initiative that brings together funding for training, employment, and skills activities.

“What many people do not realise is that working in the Horticulture Industry involves a lot more than just a hands-on role with plants. It is an industry that is using a lot of advanced technologies,” said Lisa. “While I may be working with potting machines and other types of machinery, the technology developments and advancements are starting to change the way the industry looks at its businesses and how it can be more effective in production. My training has been essential in learning these skills and preparing me for the future of the industry.”

With the support of her employer, Lisa is progressing to her Diploma of Horticulture Management at Ironwood Institute to further develop her management and leadership skills.
