Time to get dirty – with soil, that is!

After last week’s intensive theory sessions, this week it was finally time to get our hands dirty with soil testing. It came as no surprise that, given our Adelaide location, the soil we tested was alkaline. From there, we investigated the plants currently growing in the soil and explored which soil ameliorants and amendments would be most appropriate to improve their condition.

Let’s just say the correct answer, almost every time, was compost! We’re looking forward to next week’s practical session, where once again we’ll be getting our hands well and truly in the dirt.
