In the second week of my Biosecurity Studies course, I explored the many biosecurity threats that can affect the horticulture industry. I learned how important it is to identify potential risks early, put measures in place to reduce them, and understand the steps needed to control an outbreak if one occurs.
One of the highlights of the week was visiting the Adelaide City Council Nursery and the Botanic Gardens. Seeing how these organisations protect their plants and assets from pests and diseases really helped me connect what we’re learning in class to real-world biosecurity practices. It was a great opportunity to see theory in action and understand the level of care and attention required to keep our horticultural industries safe.
