Ironwood Institute’s CEO, Mr. Navtej Bal, participated in his first Vinnies CEO Sleepout. Navtej, along with over 100 community and business leaders, spent a cold and wet night at Lot Fourteen, on Thursday 17th June, to raise funds to support services for homeless people. Held in major cities across Australia, this annual event is designed to raise awareness and to help break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.
“Just one night of sleeping out on the wet concrete floor has taught me how homeless people feel when they turn in for the night.” Navtej says.
Every night, around 6,000 people in SA are experiencing homelessness or sleeping rough. High costs of living, rising unemployment, and mental illness are some of the factors that have traditionally placed people at risk. And now, with the impacts of COVID-19, we are bracing ourselves for a new wave of people who have never needed our assistance before.
Donations can be made to this year’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout until the end of July 2021.
