Last week, Ironwood Institute proudly participated in the NAIDOC Week celebrations alongside Red Centre Enterprises at the University of Adelaide’s Waite Campus. The event was a vibrant celebration of Indigenous culture and heritage, highlighting the richness of Australia’s native flora through an extraordinary Australian Taste Sensation. Attendees enjoyed a unique bush tucker experience, showcasing a variety of native plants and their culinary uses.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the new book, Australia’s Native Supermarket, a collaboration between Yuandamarra and Dr. Peter Crisp. This beautifully crafted book explores the diverse array of native Australian foods and their potential for sustainable and healthy eating. The project was generously supported by the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) and the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA), underscoring the importance of preserving and promoting Indigenous knowledge and practices in agriculture and cuisine.
Ironwood Institute remains committed to closing the education gap and promoting inclusive growth by offering tailored training and skills development opportunities for First Nation people. By supporting initiatives that enhance knowledge and celebrate cultural heritage, Ironwood Institute aims to foster a more equitable and inclusive future for all.
“We are honored to be part of this significant celebration of NAIDOC Week, which aligns with our mission to support and empower Indigenous communities through education,” said a spokesperson for Ironwood Institute. “By collaborating with organizations like Red Centre Enterprises and participating in events that honor and celebrate First Nation culture, we contribute to a more inclusive and respectful society.”
Ironwood Institute continues to support initiatives that promote understanding, respect, and unity among all Australians. We are dedicated to creating educational pathways that recognize and integrate Indigenous knowledge, fostering a brighter and more equitable future for everyone.
