🤝 New Global Partnership: Ironwood Launches Pepea Scholarship with Kenya’s Elgeyo Marakwet County

Ironwood Institute is proud to announce the signing of a landmark tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Elgeyo Marakwet County (Kenya) and international education advocate Dr. Christine Walela. This agreement marks the beginning of a meaningful global education partnership, focused on advancing practical agricultural training in Kenya through international collaboration.

The MoU was formally signed in the presence of His Excellency Governor Wisley Rotich and Ironwood CEO Mr. Navtej Bal, highlighting the shared commitment to capacity-building in Kenya’s agribusiness and horticulture sectors.

🌍 About the Pepea Scholarship Program
As part of this initiative, Ironwood Institute is offering 20 merit-based scholarships, each covering 50% of tuition fees for the AMP80215 Graduate Diploma of Agribusiness.

These scholarships are designed to support Bachelor graduates from Elgeyo Marakwet County, one of Kenya’s most disadvantaged regions. The goal is to nurture the next generation of leaders in high-tech agriculture and agribusiness — areas critical to Kenya’s food security and economic development.

The Pepea Scholarship Program is a broader Kenyan initiative aimed at expanding educational access for talented individuals from underserved backgrounds. “Pepea,” meaning to rise or to soar in Swahili, captures the spirit of this transformative opportunity.

🎓 A 1+1 Global Pathway with Torrens University
Recipients of the Pepea Scholarship will also have the option to package their studies into a 1+1 international qualification pathway, completing:

Year 1: Graduate Diploma of Agribusiness at Ironwood Institute (Adelaide, South Australia)
Year 2: Master’s degree at Torrens University Australia
Torrens University has also committed to supporting these students through additional 50% scholarships for eligible applicants continuing into the Master’s program.

📢 Building Global Skills for Local Impact
Kenya’s agricultural sector faces a growing demand for graduates with practical experience in High-Tech Agricultural Technologies. Through this partnership, students will gain hands-on exposure to Australia’s advanced horticulture systems, sustainability strategies, and agribusiness innovation — skills they can bring back to transform their local communities.

Applications will be facilitated by Dr. Walela’s team on the ground in Kenya. For more information about the program or to apply, please contact:
